Većina bolnica u Pojasu Gaze prestala je sa radom, a neke su bile izložene direktnom bombardovanju.
Doktori tvrde da veliki nedostatak osoblja i opreme u Evropskoj bolnici u Gazi primorava medicinske timove da donose bolne odluke o tome kojeg pacijenta će uzeti na liječenje, ostavljajući mnoge pacijente uprkos teškim povredama.
Doktori su rekli da je Evropska bolnica u gradu Khan Yunisu u južnoj Gazi predviđena za hospitalizaciju 240 ljudi, ali da ona trenutno liječi oko hiljadu pacijenata, dok se istovremeno mnogi raseljeni sklanjaju u njene hodnike.
“U mnogo prilika smo primorani birati između pacijenata prema prioritetu”, rekao je plastični hirurg Ahmad Al-Makhalati, dodajući da to znači fokusiranje na one koji imaju veće šanse za preživljavanje i odbijanje onih koji su “u lošoj situaciji i kojima je potrebna zahtjevnija njega.”

Al-Makhalati je govorio i o vršenju amputacija na pacijentima, rekavši da bi često briznuo u plač “jer nismo u mogućnosti da pružimo njegu na adekvatan način”.
Više od 27.000 ljudi je ubijeno, a 66.000 je ranjeno u izraelskom napadu na Pojas Gaze od 7. oktobra 2023. godine.
